Speaker profile: Dr. Alam Payind Director, Middle Eastern Studies Center, Office of International Affairs Payind is the Director of the Middle East Studies Center (MESC), a senior teaching member of the International Studies Program and the Near Eastern Languages and Cultures department, a liaison for the Office of International Students and Scholars, and a member of University’s International Programs Task Force. Payind, who was born and raised in Afghanistan, served in the Afghan government as the Director General of Cultural and Foreign Relations, and was a professor at Kabul University before the Soviet invasion in 1979 forced him to seek refuge in the US. ‘Buckeye Bullet’ sets another world record
Ohio State’s Venturi Buckeye Bullet team has successfully chased down yet another international record. On August 22, professional driver Roger Schroer guided the Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3 (VBB-3) to an average two-way speed of 212.615 miles per hour.

Swim-a-thon to benefit Pelotonia
Buckeye fans are invited to participate in the Ohio State synchronized swimming team’s second annual Swim-A-Thon to benefit Team Buckeye, the university’s official Pelotonia peloton. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
