BG (Ret.) Marvin K. (Keith) McNamara
On Aug. 29, 2002, BG Marvin (Keith) McNamara assumed command of the U. S. Army Developmental Test Command after serving as deputy director, Joint Air and Missile Defense Organization, JB/Joint Staff, in Arlington, Virginia.
BG McNamara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business-computer science from Ohio State University and a Master of Science degree in industrial engineering from New Mexico State University. He has completed the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course and the Armor Officer Advanced Course, and attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.
He received his commission as second lieutenant through the Reserve Officer Training Corps on Aug. 30, 1979. Since receiving his first leadership assignment in February 1980 as platoon leader and tactical control officer for the 68th Air Defense Artillery at Fort Bragg,
North Carolina, he has held a variety of leadership and command assignments in the United States and abroad.
Among his various other assignments, he has served as the commander of the U.S. Army Forces Central Command-Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, as the chief of the Commander-in-Chief of the Assessments Division, Ballistic Missile Defense Organization in Washington, D.C., and as director of the Acquisition Integration Team for that organization. He was commander of the 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery, part of V Corps in Germany, and commander of the Task Force, 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery during Operation Provide Cover in Saudi Arabia . He also commanded Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery, part of the 32nd Army Air Defense Command in Germany.
Other assignments include serving as S-3 (Operations Officer) for the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bliss and as S-3 for the 3rd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bliss. He also was chief of the Material Requirements Division, Director of Combat Developments, 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Before attending the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he was an operations research senior analyst with the Command, Control, Communications and Countermeasures Joint Test Force at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, and later deputy chief of the Analysis Division for the organization .
BG McNamara’s awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal, the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, and the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge.
BG McNamara is married to the former Lynn Bennett, they have four children, Megan, Jason, Josh and Kelly.
