MG Geoffrey D. Miller, ’71
Major General Geoffrey D. Miller is a native of Gallipolis, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Social Studies and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Field Artillery . He holds a Master of Science Degree in Education Administration from the University of Southern California. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, The Armor Officer Advance Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the National War College. He was the Chief of Staff of the Army Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institute in Washington, D.C.
General Miller has served in a wide variety of important command and staff positions, culminating with his current assignment as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel and Installation Management, Headquarters Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Georgia. At Forces Command General Miller is responsible for a wide range of installation management and human resource related programs, that support more than 700 thousand soldiers and their families. His overseas troop experience includes a tour of duty in Germany, with three tours in Korea. He has also served in several locations throughout the United States.
General Miller’s command assignments include: Commander of the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery at Fort Bragg; Commander, Task Force Kuwait during Operation Intrinsic Action; Commander, Division Artillery, 101st Airborne (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, KY; Commander, 5111 Battalion,15111 Field Artillery, 7111 Infantry Division (Light) Fort Ord, CA. General Miller Commanded three artillery batteries and a basic training company: Service Battery and Battery C of the so111 Field Artillery; 7111 Infantry Division and Battery C, 1• Battalion, 15″‘ Field Artillery, 2d Infantry Division, Korea, and HHC Training Group (PROV), 3d Basic Combat Training Brigade, at Fort Ord.
General Miller’s staff positions include: Assistant Division Commander (Maneuver) and Deputy Commanding General,Fort Carson, CO; Chief of Staff, 2d Infantry Division, Korea; Force Development Staff Officer, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, Battalion Executive Officer and S3 for the 6th Battalion, 37111 Field Artillery (MLRS), Korea; and assistant Professor of Military Science at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas.
General Miller’s awards include the Legion of Merit (with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Meritorious Service Medal (with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster),and the Army staff Identification Badge. He is a graduate of the airborne, jumpmaster, and air assault schools. He is a master rated parachutist. He has also received both the French and German Airborne Wings.
General Miller is married to the former Pamela Love of Eldorado, Texas.
